Digital X-Rays
X-rays are important for when detecting underlying problems and conditions that wouldn’t be found with a typical exam. We use state-of-the-art x-ray technology to ensure that only a minimal amount of radiation is used for the actual image. You can expect to have x-rays taken at the majority of your appointments. They can be taken on adult and pediatric patients alike because they are safe and beneficial to your oral health.
Why Are X-Rays Needed?
The reason x-rays are often needed is because certain problems and conditions cannot be seen with the naked eye. Underlying abscesses, impacted wisdom teeth and root fractures often cannot be seen with an exam alone. X-rays are helpful when it comes to allowing us to monitor for changes to your oral health. Because they are so beneficial, you can expect them to be taken at most of your dental appointments in our office.
Who Is A Candidate for X-Rays?
Dental x-rays use a small amount of radiation to create a high-definition and detailed image. Because of this, they are safe for most patients and we recommend them simply because of the benefits of having them done. If it’s been awhile since your last appointment, we may recommend a full set of x-rays to help us spot any problems that might be present. If you’re coming in for an emergency, you can expect to have x-rays taken to identify the issue.
What Happens During The X-Ray Process?
The process to take x-rays often begins with a lead apron that is draped over your body. The lead helps to refract any radiation coming from the actual machine. A small device is placed in your mouth and the machine itself is aimed at this device. The image is taken and shows up immediately on our computer screens. We then continue the process until all of the necessary x-rays are taken. You can expect to have x-rays taken at the majority of your appointments.
